Experience living in community, growing as a leader, deepening your faith, and learning how to make a real difference.

Program Details

Over 12 weeks, cohorts of 20 leaders live together in Kigali and journey towards abundance by participating in initiatives focused on leadership, stewardship, service, and discipleship.

  • Countries Served: Young leaders from Rwanda, Uganda, DRC, and Burundi are welcome to apply

  • Location: The Kurumbuka Leadership Hub in Kigali, Rwanda

  • Length: 3 Months

  • Structure: A combination of in-class learning, field visits, adventure learning, and service opportunities

  • Cost: $750 USD (scholarships are available)

  • Certification: Certificate in Abundant Leadership

  • Cohort Size: 20 leaders per cohort

  • Application Deadline: September 10, 2024

Program Outcomes

    • Understand abundant leadership and able to apply its core principles

    • Demonstrate an understanding of biblical servant leadership

    • Develop a personal vision and mission statement

    • Understand that all decisions are influenced by their relationship with God

    • Understand the basic purpose of the Bible

    • Understand authentic biblical discipleship and apply it to their personal faith journey

    • Learn how to share their faith in Christ with others

    • Examine and practice classic spiritual disciplines

    • Appreciate the significance of belonging to a community of believers

    • Participate in the local Umuganda and other community service events

    • Experience the natural resources of the region

    • Understand transformative entrepreneurialism

    • Plan and execute in-country service trips with other local leaders

    • Explore principles of effective self-leadership

    • Learn how to practically steward time, money, gifts, talents, and abilities

    • Understand how to live a life of wholeness and freedom in Christ

  • In-Class Learning

    Trek includes courses and workshops delivered by local and international professionals and facilitators with knowledge and experience in their respective fields. Course content includes but is not limited to:

    • Self-Leadership

    • Will of God

    • Alpha Course

    • Lead like Jesus

    • Keys to Freedom

    • Life Paths (including Abundant Leadership, Asset-based Community Development, Career Development, and more)

  • Adventure Learning

    Visit the breathtaking natural wonders of Rwanda such as Lake Kivu, Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe Forest, or Akagera National Park

  • Service Activities

    Participate in local service activities and develop service projects with your fellow students.

  • Field Visits

    Experience the work of ALI alumni, be mentored by executive leaders in your field of interest, an learn how to share your gifts with others.

  • Mentorship

    Embrace opportunities for personal mentoring and coaching from Kurumbuka staff and ALI alumni

  • Skills-Building

    Gain practical skills through cooking classes, public speaking, computer classes, and more.

All applicants are able to apply for a scholarship. The amount offered to each student will vary depending on financial need and merit. Requests for financial support can be made in the ‘Tuition Costs & Financial Need’ section of the Trek application.

Every student is expected to contribute to the cost of the program.
